Privacy Policy for BackLatex
Introduction
BackLatex ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that converts LaTeX text delimiters to escaped format for compatibility with platforms like Google Colab. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data when you use our extension.
Data Collection
BackLatex does not collect, store, transmit, or share any user data.
The extension operates entirely locally on your device. Specifically:
- No data collection: We do not collect any personal information, browsing history, or usage data.
- No data transmission: All text processing happens locally in your browser. No data is sent to external servers.
- No data storage: We do not store your input text, processed text, or any other information.
- No analytics: We do not use analytics tools or tracking technologies.
- No third-party services: The extension does not communicate with any third-party services or APIs.
- No authentication: The extension does not require user accounts or authentication.
How the Extension Works
BackLatex processes text entirely within your browser's extension popup interface. When you:
- Paste or type LaTeX text into the extension's input field
- Click the convert button
- The extension processes the text locally using JavaScript
- The converted text is copied to your clipboard
All of these operations occur on your device. The text never leaves your browser, and no information is transmitted over the network.
Permissions
The extension requires the following permission:
- clipboardWrite: This permission is required to copy the converted LaTeX text to your clipboard after processing. This is the core functionality of the extension. Without this permission, users would need to manually copy the converted text, which defeats the purpose of the extension's convenience feature.
The extension does not request any other permissions and does not access your browsing history, bookmarks, or any other personal information.
